Tech Barcelona, named ‘Startup Ecosystem Star 2024’

Paris, December 4, 2024. – Tech Barcelona has been named “Startup Ecosystem Star 2024” at a ceremony held today in Paris, organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Mind the Bridge, in collaboration with the OECD, the European Commission and Microsoft. This award recognized the association’s contributions in supporting startups, talent and industry.

With more than 1,400 members, 90 partners and other public and private collaborators, Tech Barcelona has established itself as a central pillar of the technological and digital ecosystem in Barcelona.

Miguel Vicente, president of Tech Barcelona, received the recognition at the ICC headquarters, highlighting the growth of the association, from its creation by a group of entrepreneurs more than 10 years ago, to its consolidation as one of the most relevant technology associations in Europe: “This recognition is a testimony to the public-private collaboration, the daily efforts of entrepreneurs and investors, the extraordinary scientific and technological capabilities of Barcelona, the large corporations that invest in our city, and the incredible talent we have”.

In addition to the recognition of Tech Barcelona, other prominent international players have also received awards in this edition. Among them, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, Algeria’s Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Microenterprises, for his leadership in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in Africa. In total, more than 60 organizations received awards in different categories.

“Innovation is a key driver of economic growth, and today’s awards exemplify the power of collaboration between large corporations and startups, as well as the importance of fostering entrepreneurial ecosystems,” said John W.H. Denton, secretary general of the ICC. “The ICC is honored to host this annual celebration of global innovation,” he concluded.
