Cai Felip (Barcelona, 1986)

Cai Felip is the CEO and founder of Linking Realities, Barcelona-based startup dedicated to creating full-body personal avatars – or Union Avatars – for the metaverse. The project raised €1.2 million to integrate the avatars into Web3 through “secure digital identifications”.

“I started studying computer science, but I soon ended up creating my own event management company. Without leaving technology aside, in 2017 I founded my first startup, WalkABit, still active under different management. And in 2020 we decided to embark on the Union Avatars project.”

TB: What is the purpose of your project?

CF: To offer tools for managing identity in digital worlds.

TB: A good idea you have had.

CF: To automate my entire house or a federated identification and authentication system.

TB: A bad professional experience.

CF: Working in companies where everything was too well defined and there was nothing to discover.

TB: The best advice you’ve ever been given.

CF: Team work makes dream work.

CF: Tim Sweeney, US developer and founder of Epic Games, for his approach to the open metaverse.

TB: A technology that will shape the future.

CF: Mixed reality, a single space in which both real and virtual objects and people coexist.

TB: A startup.

CF: I love to read. For essays I would say “The StartUp Owner’s Manual” by Steve Blank and Bob Dorf. And in novels, anything by Francisco Casavella or Ursula K. Le Guin.

CF: “Una Mattina” by Ludovico Einaudi.

TB: A city, a journey.

CF: Kingston, Jamaica. Or a trip to the Philippines.

TB: Where would you invest 100k?

CF: In Mojo Lens, the first augmented reality smart contact lenses.

TB: And a million euros?

CF: In renewable energies.

TB: If you were not an entrepreneur…

CF: I would be an entrepreneur, I don’t see any other way of living.
