We launch an online content program to cope with the confinement and teleworking days, and to feed the intellect.

We started these series with a live video session entitled “Covid-19 Pandemic. Socio-Economic Impact and Communication”, in collaboration with ISGlobal and Future Health Club with the goal of discovering what’s happening and what will come with the Covid-19.

Streamed on Thursday, March 19th, more than 1,500 people followed this talk conducted by three experts in global health: Rafa Vilasanjuan, Director Communication, Policy & Global Development of ISGlobal; Jose Muñoz Gutiérrez, Associate Research Professor (ISGlobal) and Head of the International Health service of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona; and Joan Bigorra, Innovation Director of ISGlobal and Senior Advisor on Innovation of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

“We must analyze the practices of the countries that were initially affected and that have managed to decrease the cases, such as Singapore, South Korea and the Italian city of Vo’Euganeo. Tracking the cases and managing the situation with quarantine and isolation was relevant in these countries, but the key was knowing who was infected and who was not”.

“The current situation at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is hard. We have conventional hospital wards that are being occupied by patients with coronavirus. Many sick people are being move to the ICU. We are not clear about the extent of the infection, but we sense that many people on the street are infected and that we will occupy more beds in the ICU.”

And a percentage of them will end up in the ICU, which means that we will need more beds and resources. We need to prevent people from getting infected.”

“Historically and culturally, China had a very obedient population. Citizens of China obey without the need to impose a series of laws. On the other hand, in western societies we obey when there is communication. As soon as it is capable of changing attitudes, we will have people at home instead of on the street, subway, etc. So, we ask for very clear instructions. Good communication is the only resource that will make it possible for people to stay at home and understand what we have to do”.
